Another year brings with it debut fiction from fresh voices as well as new releases from beloved authors. I love putting out this first list of the year. It’s just a small sampling of the amazing books coming our way in 2019!
For years, I’ve been calling this list my Spring Break Picks. It’s ironic because my kids are grown and flown and really, we haven’t been on a spring vacation in years. Even when my kids were in college, they never shared the same week off. So really, this list is just some of my faves I suggest you read this spring, whether you plan to travel or enjoy time at home.
Enjoy this list and please share with your book loving friends. Happy Reading!
Miracle Creek by Angie Kim – This debut book is a perfect mix of medical mystery, immigration and parenting special needs kids. It’s filled with lies, oh so many lies, which will make you read even faster to unravel the truth.
The Huntress by Kate Quinn – This is historical fiction at its finest. A tension filled, captivating story with three narratives that are woven together seamlessly. The characters were so well realized, I still can’t shake them from my head. A cameo appearance by Eve Gardiner from The Alice Network is a welcome surprise.
Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Describing this book in a sentence or two is near impossible. Just think about the seventies music scene, powerful lyrics, love, sex, drugs with an everpresent soundtrack of rock and roll. You’ll definitely get a Fleetwood Mac vibe. And guess what? Daisy Jones has a playlist on Spotify.
Park Avenue Summer by Renee Rosen – A look at the life of Helen Gurley Brown, author of Sex and the Single Girl, when she became Editor in Chief of the then crumbling Cosmopolitan Magazine. A great storyline allowed this well-researched and underestimated woman to come alive. She was way ahead of her time and forever changed the path for women’s magazines.
The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves – If you’re looking for a contemporary romance to take on vacation, your search is over. This one has fabulous, unconventional characters, an overwhelming sense of hope and will make you believe in second chances.
The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer – This book flips between historical fiction and current day as a woman tries to unlock the secrets from her grandmother’s past during the war. Powerful and emotive. Strong female characters. Great storytelling.
My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing – This story reminds me of when you see something horrible but just can’t look away. It’s utterly compulsive and will make you look at your neighbors through a new lens. Great contemporary thriller.
