Summer Reading Picks 2020

Here are my picks for the Summer of 2020! There were so many to choose from that I chose not to include memoirs.

Beach Read by Emily Henry – Thought provoking rom-com with heart and laughter. 

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennet – Twins grow up inseperable then go seperate ways, one living as a white girl and the other black.  6/2

The Last Flight by Julie Clark – At the airport two women decide to swtich tickets to escape their lives. One plane goes down and the drama ensues. 6/23

Red Sky over Hawaii by Sara Ackerman – No one can capture and create stories centered around Pearl Harbor than this author. 6/9

His and Hers by Alice Feeney – Reporter heads to the town she grew up in to cover a murder and realizes she knows the victim. Mystery and thriller. 7/28

The Woman Before Wallis by Bryn Turnball – Great fictionalized story about Wallis Simpson who fell in love with Prince Edward, which led to his abdication from the throne. 7/21

The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Powerful historical fiction about a woman who gift for forgery saved hundreds of children during the Holocaust. 7/21

Musical Chairs by Amy Poeppel – Hilarious family drama with spot on wit and dialougue. 7/21

The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue – Women are quarantined in a maternity ward when two strangers come in. The balance shifts in ways the character’s would never expect. 7/21

How to Save a Life by Liz Fenton and Lisa Stenke – Unique romance with some fantasy and suspense told from a man’s point of view. 7/14

The Orphan Collector by Ellen Marie Wiseman – Fabulous historical fiction. Spanish Influenza in 1918 – couldn’t be more timely. 7/28

The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi – An oninous birthmark, a puzzling murder, an unexplained illness, love and loss make up this well-written novel.  8/4

A Good Famly by A.H. Kim – Rollercoaster family drama that’s intelligent, witty and will suddenly make your own family seem less dysfuntional. Great debut. 7/14

Side Trip by Kerry Lonsdale – This will take you on a trip and you won’t want it to end. Pefect summer romance that will give you all the feels. 7/7

The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis – Dual timeline story told by two women, eighty years apart, that both search for stolen library books. 8/4

The Bright Side Sanctuary for Animals by Becky Mandelbaum – Terrific story about mothers and daughters, animals and learning to make the right choices. 8/4

The Sight of You by Holly Miller – Romantic story with a dollop of mysticism and the power of fate over destiny. 6/9

He Started It by Samantha Downing – Author of the mega hit My Lovely Wife is back with another twisted and suspensful book focusing on family and inheritance. 7/21

The Last Train to Key West by Chanel Cleeton – Three women’s lives are irreparably changed on Labor Day weekend, 1935, with a historic hurricane on its way. 6/16

We Came Here to Shine by Susie Orman Schnall – Historical fiction, set during the 1939 World’s Fair, pairs two women whose ambition and friendship is remarkable. 6/16

The Secret French Recipes of Sophie Valroux by Samantha Verant – Fun contemporary fiction that’s fit for foodies!
