Babe Walker, center of the universe, is a painstakingly manicured white girl with an expensive smoothie habit, a proclivity for Louboutins, a mysterious mother she’s never met, and approximately 50 bajillion Twitter followers. But her “problems” have landed her in shopping rehab–that’s what happens when you spend $246,893.50 in one afternoon at Barneys. Now she’s decided to write her memoir, revealing the gut-wrenching hurdles she’s had to overcome in order to be perfect in every way, every day. Hurdles such as:
– I hate my horse.
– Every job I’ve ever had is the worst job I’ve ever had.
– He’s not a doctor, a lawyer, or a prince.
– I’ll eat anything, as long as it’s gluten-free, dairy-free, low-carb, low-fat, low-calorie, sugar-free, and organic.
In an Adderall-induced flash of inspiration, Babe Walker has managed to create one of the most enjoyable, unforgettable memoirs in years.
My Review: 3 stars
If you want a light, laugh-out-loud quick read then White Girl Problems by Babe Walker is just the book. Immediately I was enraptured by Babeβs quick wit, sarcastic humor and egotistical personality. I couldnβt put the book down because I wanted to know what sort of crazy βwhite girl problemβ I was going to read about next. The first half of the book was much more enjoyable than the second half because as you get more of an understanding of Babe, you realize just how sad and materialistic her world is and how little regard she has of others. Β Fictitiously written as a memoir during her stint in rehab; this book is a parody of social status and entitlement.
Review:The Measure by Nikki Erlick was a book I waited far too long to read. I just couldnβt stomach the idea that everyone in the world would find out their relative life span. The whole idea of this scared me but when my book club chose to read it, I dug in with enthusiasm.Iβm so glad I did. This book is more about life and how we live it, rather than about dying. Itβs told by a cast of eight characters who are deeply affected by the strings they received. The length of the string parallels the length of your life. All the characters are struggling with their results because even if he or she gets a long string, there will still be people they know will be gone soon. How the world at large handles the strings was so well done. People are switching boxes hoping it could change their destiny. Support groups are offered. Protests occur. The world is in a very different place. Much of this book made me think about the differences between fate and destiny. This story offers many intertwined connections between the characters that makes for a powerful and meaningful ending. Iβm so looking forward to whatβs next from this author. @nikkierlick @williammorrowbooks William Morrow π Would you open a box that told you how long your lifespan is?#themeasure #scifilight#bookreader #bookclubpick #goodbookfairy...
