Book Blurb:
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in collegeβthey go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, nowβfor reasons theyβre still not discussingβthey donβt. They broke up six months ago. And still havenβt told their best friends. Which is how they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend groupβs yearly getaway for the last decade. Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week theyβll all have together in this place. They canβt stand to break their friendsβ hearts, and so theyβll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. Itβs a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one weekβ¦in front of those who know you best?
My Review: 3.5 stars
Happy Place by Emily Henry was yet another notch in her witty, second chance romance belt. I liked that the story focused on more than romance. It also had a strong emphasis on a group of friends that bonded during college. Their times together were some of the strongest parts of the book.
The main storyline revolves around Harriet and Wyn, the perfect couple that broke of their engagement and have yet to share this news with friends or family. And itβs been months. The trope worked, and I enjoyed the banter between all of the characters, however I felt that Harriet (the MC) needed more fleshing out as a character. She was caught between being book smart strong and common sense weak. Perhaps it’s what the author intended this but still, it bugged me.
Henry does know how to make a strong sizzle between characters and the intimate scenes were done well. This was an easy and overall enjoyable read that will be perfect to drop in your beach bag.Β
