Book Blurb:
This beautifully illustrated counting board book introduces children to the numbers 1 through 10 using poetic prose and colorful illustrations of equipment, uniforms, medals, traditions, and other mementos exclusive to the Army community.
Along with the other books in this series, My First Counting Book: Army uses a creative rhyming scheme paired with numbers and facts make these books easy to read, and the information memorable and recognizable. The inside back cover of each book provides a key for parents and educators to teach children further information and facts about each item featured. Additionally, the sturdy board book format is perfect for repeated handling by young children. These books are especially meaningful for children in military families and communities.
My Review:
I don’t review kid’s books, yet I couldn’t help but be attracted to these military themed counting books when Memorial Day came around and I thought it’d be great to do a “Better Late Then Never Giveaway for Memorial Day.” This author noticed, while doing research for another project, that most books for kids about the military were serious in theme: missing a parent, losing a parent or deployment. So she decided to create a happy series that celebrates the military and one that both parents in the military and civilians would be proud to share with their children. It’s never to early to teach them a little bit about what each branch does and of course the counting part doesn’t hurt either!
