My Review: 3.5
If you’re a chick-lit fan, get ready to gobble up Center Ring because you’ll love it! This book is filled with all the characters, drama and issues that make up a classic chick-lit story.
Told by five main characters, all friends by assorted connections, that call themselves “sister friends.” Each of the five women has their own distinct voice, which the reader will be able to connect to, or they’ll know someone that these characters remind them of. Some of the issues peppered throughout this ring of women are: working women, infertility, adultery, troubled past, hidden past, abuse, eating disorders, trusting men, stay-at-home moms, being broken hearted loving the right man vs. the wrong man, grief, success, family and relationships with their men, children and each other.
The author made many references to rings, juggling acts and life as a circus, which were obvious writing techniques, but she handled them well. The book read quickly and almost like we were in the heads of one the Housewives shows on reality TV.
This is a long book and it’s the first of a trilogy. It ended abruptly in a dramatic way that will leave the reader anxiously waiting for the second book to come out. I would’ve preferred a softer and semi wrapped up ending, that still encouraged me to keep reading the series.
Perfect light read for the beach and summertime!
