Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano – Audio
Book Blurb:
Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.
When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.
My Review: 4 stars
Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano is a cute and well-done audio that will entertain you and make you chuckle at Finlay’s ridiculous antics she finds herself in, as well as her wit and charm.
This book starts with a hysterical premise of someone that wants to hire a hitman that conveniently overhears Finlay discussing her new novel, a thriller, with her agent and is mistaken for a hitman, well, hitwoman. As a single mom, she’s strapped for cash and from there the plot ensues.
As much as I enjoyed the crazy situations Finlay found herself in, the underlying theme of single mom life did not go unnoticed. She put herself at risk for reward to ultimately take care of her kids. Finding a way to take care of them was at the heart of the story and made her even more likable. Can’t wait for the sequel!
Quotes I liked:
It’s a widely known fact that most moms are ready to kill someone by eight thirty A.M. on any given morning. On the particular morning of Tuesday, October eighth, I was ready by seven forty-five.”
