Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner – 376 pages
Book Blurb:
For twenty-eight years, things have been tripping along nicely for Cannie Shapiro. Sure, her mother has come charging out of the closet, and her father has long since dropped out of her world. But she loves her friends, her rat terrier, Nifkin, and her job as pop culture reporter for The Philadelphia Examiner. She’s even made a tenuous peace with her plus-size body. But the day she opens up a national women’s magazine and sees the words “Loving a Larger Woman” above her ex-boyfriend’s byline, Cannie is plunged into misery…and the most amazing year of her life. From Philadelphia to Hollywood and back home again, she charts a new course for herself: mourning her losses, facing her past, and figuring out who she is and who she can become.
My Review: 4 stars
Jennifer Weiner has created a wonderful character out of Cannie Shapiro in her novel Good In Bed. This protagonist is honest, witty and completely likable. She offers a heaping dose of laughter, much self examination and the ability to move forward, when you’re at your weakest.
Women of all sizes and shapes will appreciate the message of love who you are so you can be loved in return.
Cute, easy read that’s perfect for the beach!
Quotes I liked:
When I was five I learned to read. Books were a miracle to me – white pages, black ink, and new worlds and different friends in each one. To this day, I relish the feeling of cracking a binding for the first time, the anticipation of where I’ll go and whom I’ll meet inside.”
-“As many times as I told her she was beautiful, I know that she never believed me. As many times as I said it didn’t matter, I knew that to her it did.”
-“I’ve learned that some broken things stay broken, and I’ve learned that you can get through bad times and keep looking for better ones, as long as you have people who love you.”
-“I want to live in a world where people are judged by who they are instead of what size they wear.”
