Let me start by saying that I’ve never been a fan of short stories. I read this because I admire so many of the authors that wrote for this collection and I do love the time period as well. All of these original stories about “Postwar Love and Reunion” had something to offer for most any reader. They each had a hint of connection to the previous story, which was a nice thread to follow. I’m not a fan of short stories because as soon as I get connected to the story, a character or an idea, it has to quickly get wrapped up. In other words, it’s a quick buzz kill! I don’t want my opinion to dissuade you though. Many people love short stories for their shorter time commitment in reading them and in the skill it takes an author to write one. I enjoyed The Branch of Hazel by Sarah McCoy, I’ll Be Seeing You by Sarah Jio, The Reunion by Kristina McMorris and The Harvest Season by Karen White quite a lot.
Quotes I Liked:
Love is a funny thing. We think we know what we want, and we’re so often easily confused and distracted. But if we consulted out hearts more, it wouldn’t be that way.” – Sarah Jio
– “I knew almost no one who was purely happy.” – Erika Robuck
