So my nearly 50-year-old sister raved about Hopeless, which I knew little about. This book is only available on eReaders so although it’s been on my TBR, I hadn’t gotten to it yet; I prefer holding real books. I was in the middle of an emotionally heavy book and just needed a break, so I popped it open on my iPhone and got sucked right in to this story. I had no idea my sister was giving such high marks to a YA, lust filled romance; that cracked me up. But I understand why. Who can’t use a good dose of young love, firsts times and the hopefulness of forever? If I were in high school, I’d have been all over this book. Beyond the desire of these two main characters, there was a decent mystery and some serious YA issues that are handled well. One pet peeve was that I can understood the rules about not using cell phones, but what 17-year-old doesn’t know what LOL means or has never heard of an eReader. She was homeschooled and quite sheltered but she didn’t live under a rock! Good vacation chick lit read.
Quotes I liked:
There’s no middle ground with her. She’s either extremely lenient or extremely strict. She’s like a conservative liberal.”
– “Most teenagers are stashing away cigarettes and weed, I stash away sugar.”
– “There’s nothing like the guilt you feel when there’s room in your heart to love evil.”
– “I need a chapter break.”
