Book Blurb:
Columnist Anna Appleby has left her love life behind after a painful divorce. Who needs a man when she has two kids, a cat, and uncontested control of the TV remote? Besides, she’d rather be single than subject herself to the hell of online dating. But her office rival is vying for her column, and no column means no stable source of income. In a desperate attempt to keep her job, Anna finds herself pitching a unique angle: seven dates, all found offline, chosen by her children. From awkward encounters to unexpected connections, Anna gamely begins to put herself out there, asking out waiters, the mailman, and even her celebrity crush. But when a romantic connection appears where she least expected it, will she be brave enough to take another chance on love?
My Review: 4 stars
Is She Really Going Out with Him? by Sophie Cousens is a fun workplace romance that is filled with a lot of heart and humor.
Anna Appleby is the main protagonist of the story and takes on so much in her life after her unsettling divorce. She’s a mom who works full time and is stretched to the limits to find “me-time.” Will, her rival at work who just happens to be the hot and younger know-it-all, is one-upping her and she’s not pleased. Soon, in order to save the online magazine, Anna and Will are pitted against each other by means of their dating columns.
While Will goes on more dramatic dates, Anna, who is not a fan of online dating, enlists her kids to choose who she should go on dates with. Luckily, she gets a few veto options in this plan. I could not imagine turning over the control of my dates to my children, but not only did her kids do an okay job, but Anna was a real trooper when it came to actually going on these dates. I laughed a lot during these outings and got to learn a lot about Anna through her dealings with these men.
If you’re looking for a cute, light and funny romance, with second chance vibes, I’d pick this one up! Very sweet!
