My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine – Audio

Book Blurb:
Cassie Greenberg loves being an artist, but it’s a tough way to make a living. On the brink of eviction, she’s desperate when she finds a too-good-to-be-true apartment in a beautiful Chicago neighborhood. Cassie knows there has to be a catch—only someone with a secret to hide would rent out a room for that price.
Of course, her new roommate Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is far from normal. He sleeps all day, is out at night on business, and talks like he walked out of a regency romance novel. He also leaves Cassie heart-melting notes around the apartment, cares about her art, and asks about her day. And he doesn’t look half bad shirtless, on the rare occasions they’re both home and awake. But when Cassie finds bags of blood in the fridge that definitely weren’t there earlier, Frederick has to come clean…Cassie’s sexy new roommate is a vampire. And he has a proposition for her.
My Review: 3.5 stars
My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is a cute, surprising, and satisfying read about a young, extremely broke artist who ends up living with a vampire.
If you are looking for a quick, fun read (or listen) this is a good choice. As a debut novel I think the author has a lot of potential as she continues to write. Her descriptions of the vampire Frederick Fitzsimmons were often laugh out loud funny. Imagine taking a Regency character from Downton Abbey and bringing them into the world of cell phones, automatic coffee makers and the casual way millennials dress and there is a ton of fodder to laugh at.
The mystery aspect was a little far fetched for me but I was invested enough to see it through. Right now paranormal is having a moment for mainstream readers so I think this is a great entry point for many readers scared to go out of their comfort zone.
I wonder if a short novella or a sequel is coming to see how Cassie and Frederick fair as a couple. Hope so!
