New Book Review:The Amateur by Chris Bohjalian was a total winner for me. It offered a great plot, a good mystery and a highly unlikeable main character. Bohjalian books are often hit or miss for me, yet this one, and his last, The Jackal’s Mistress were winners for me.I sped through this one as I was completely invested in these characters. Mira was such an unlikeable person, yet I was still rooting for her because she never meant to kill her friend, who was a new caddy. She made poor decisions over and over again and I just wanted to slap her but also hug away her circumstances.Having this book set in the early 70s was so good. It took place before the “me too” era and it led Mira into some sticky situations as she loved sleeping with married men. She also took all types of drugs on the regular which was never really questioned. I thought the trial was well written and the ending had a great conclusion. This one read really quickly and kept me highly entertained. ...

Good Book Fairy
New Book Review:Breathing Under Water by Jacquline Friedland was a relatable and compelling story of keeping your family afloat during the harried time of parenthood. Additionally, this book is a welcome reminder of how a stranger can your life for the better. The book mainly focuses on two women - Berry, a mother of two sons, one of whom has autism. The other is McKenna, a young woman taking care of her grandmother, all while working full time. The magic of the story was how these two women, in completely different stages of womanhood, found each other and allowed themselves to ask for help. Women are so trained to do everything themselves and often feel as if asking for help is a form of weakness. Leo, Berry’s son, is the superhero in the story as he goes through life on the spectrum. He’s a good looking and overall, a great kid, yet he deals with so much on a daily level. Watching him grow into himself and finding an endearing friendship with McKenna was lovely. The author’s note was very interesting as the author’s mother was diagnosing spectrum disorders way before so many others weren’t. Quiet, entertaining and quick book to read! @jackiefriedland @harpermusebooks📘: On a scale of 1-10, how good of a swimmer are you? I'm probably a five at best.#newbookreview #bookreview #bookrec #addtoTBR #goodbookfairybookreviews #goodbookfairybookreview #goodbookfairy ...
