Book Blurb:
Pony has been passed from owner to owner for longer than he can remember. Fed up, he busts out and goes on a cross-country mission to reunite with the only little girl he ever loved, Penny, who he was separated from and hasn’t seen in years.
Penny, now an adult, is living an ordinary life when she gets a knock on her door and finds herself in handcuffs, accused of murder and whisked back to the place she grew up. Her only comfort when the past comes back to haunt her are the memories of her precious, rebellious pony. Hearing of Penny’s fate, Pony knows that Penny is no murderer. So, as smart and devious as he is cute, the pony must use his hard-won knowledge of human weakness and cruelty to try to clear Penny’s name and find the real killer.
My Review: 3.5 stars
Pony Confidential by Christina Lynch was a comical and sweet read about a pony’s love for a girl, and a girl’s love for her pony.
Writing from the point of view of an animal is not new, but for me, in order to suspend belief, it needs to be done with precision. In that, the author did a fine job. What I liked most about the book were the relationships between the animals: goats, rats, and dogs! It was the story of the people that I couldn’t get behind. In my opinion, Penny’s story seemed a bit far-fetched.
I stayed completely curious about the fate of the pony. He was a good character who wanted to see good in the world as well.
Quotes I liked:
I’m older, pushing thirty now, and more clever in figuring out ways to do less and eat more. You know, quiet quitting.”
“I don’t like to judge—” I whisper to the rat. “I hear you love to judge,” says the rat. “Okay, I do love to judge. I love it, but I am trying to be a better pony.”
