Book Blurb:
Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez: After a wild bet, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich, and cuddle with a baby goat, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who’s ten years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable. While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn’t need glory or fame. She’s fine with being a “mere” ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she’s discovering just what’s really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.
Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can’t just give up the joy she’s found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?
My Review: 4 stars
State of Terror by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Louise Penny is a riveting suspense story while also educating the reader on the inner workings of the White House. Clinton brought her expertise of White House dynamics to the table while Louise Penny brought her coveted writing skills.
The plot is frightening with multiple terrorist attacks in Europe that caused understandable panic and fear throughout the world. When there are hints of an attack in the states, our main protagonist, Ellen Adams, is put in charge of creating a team to knock the threat out. Figuring out who is trustworthy, who is in whose pocket and who is out to see her fail is part of the suspense.
Ellen’s son, a journalist, is also heavily involved as her ex is from the middle east. Lots of suspicion, jabs at the former president, and learning what the Secretary of State does kept this book moving at a quick pace.
I listened to this on audio and the narrator, Joan Allen, did a marvelous job at bringing the story to life. It’s crazy that Joan sounds remarkably like Hillary Clinton. I did a double take when I learned it wasn’t Clinton narrating. Great listen for a long car ride!
Quotes I liked:
Ellen Adams was used to people underestimating her. Accomplished middle-aged women were often diminished by small men.”
“Einstein had said: “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”
“Buddhist monk Thubten Chodron’s advice: “Don’t believe everything you think.”
