Book Blurb:

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in collegeβ€”they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, nowβ€”for reasons they’re still not discussingβ€”they don’t. They broke up six months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends. Which is how they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place. They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best?

Happy Place by Emily Henry was yet another notch in her witty, second chance romance belt. I liked that the story focused on more than romance. It also had a strong emphasis on a group of friends that bonded during college. Their times together were some of the strongest parts of the book.

The main storyline revolves around Harriet and Wyn, the perfect couple that broke of their engagement and have yet to share this news with friends or family. And it’s been months. The trope worked, and I enjoyed the banter between all of the characters, however I felt that Harriet (the MC) needed more fleshing out as a character. She was caught between being book smart strong and common sense weak. Perhaps it’s what the author intended this but still, it bugged me.

Henry does know how to make a strong sizzle between characters and the intimate scenes were done well. This was an easy and overall enjoyable read that will be perfect to drop in your beach bag.Β

Quotes I liked:

You are in all of my happiest places. You are where my mind goes when it needs to be soothed.”

”Want is a kind of thief. It’s a door in your heart, and once you know it’s there, you’ll spend your life longing for whatever’s behind it.”
