However, her heart sinks as she pushes open the tattered blue door weeks later. Can this wreck ever be her home? Then Skye finds a bundle of letters hidden in the fireplace, their faded pages drawing her in with a story of long-forgotten love, tragedy, and unbelievable bravery. But all the while, Skye’s own past is circling. No matter how far she goes, fate is never far behind.

The House of Hidden Letters by Izzy Broom was the perfect book to warm up with during this nasty Chicago winter. I’ve never been to Greece, and this book took me to the small island of Folegandros which I’ve hadn’t heard of before. I can assure you that it’s a place I’d want to visit and of course meet all these lovely characters.

The idea of winning an abandoned home in Greece for only one dollar was a fun premise. Learning the why behind Skye, the main character, needed to escape was part of a mystery that was slowly revealed as the story went on. I really enjoyed the minor characters and how these strangers turned into found family.

The dual timeline worked really well in this novel. The old relics they unearthed as they were doing construction, as well as a stack of hidden letters they found, made the story sing for me. The historic element of this novel won me over as I love historical fiction.

Overall, this was quick read that had be hooked. I’ll have to check out her back stock.

Quotes I liked:

Lies are like rotten eggs-they always leave a bad smell.”

“There is no way to prepare for war. The only thing you can do is try to survive it.”

“Give me the company of your words in place of your body until we see one another again.”
