My Review: 3.5 stars
The Hundred Loves of Juliet by Evelyn Skye is a cute and inventive way to carry on the story of Romeo and Juliet in current day. Since my visit to Verona, Italy in 2016, I definitely have a soft spot for the Capulets and the Montagues.
This story wraps itself around the premise of Romeo never dying, and Juliet being reincarnated time and time again. Each time she finds Romeo (Sebastian) in a different city, state or country, she has no idea who he is, and they live in their blissful romance until she passes. The twist is that this Juliet (Helene), recognizes Sebastian as the man she’s been dreaming about forever.
The book carries on with good banter, falling for each other at great risk, and of course, life in Alaska. Overall, the story was good, but I wish there was a better explanation of the curse that caused Romeo to live forever. I enjoyed the narration and was completely engaged in the story but with the lack of understanding about the curse and the rushed ending, I got a bit frustrated.
If you’re a fan of Romeo and Juliet and divine connections that are otherworldly, for example the stories she wrote are of Romeo’s actual relationships, then you’ll be quite happy with this story!
