The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – 374 pages
Book Blurb:
The New York Times bestselling The Hunger Games, with an all-new cover from the major motion picture! The astonishing bestseller is now a fantastic movie, set to release on March 23rd, 2012!
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister Primrose, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before — and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
My Review: 4 stars
I’m finally in the loop with the Hunger Games series! It’s a great YA fiction book that totally agrees with both genders. There’s romance, fighting, family loyalty, action, violence and love. This is the only book I can think of that my entire family had read and enjoyed! Movie comes out next year and I hope it does this book justice!
Quotes I liked:
You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.”
-“I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun.”
Just read this after my daughters and granddaughters kept talking about it. I really enjoyed it, and then went to see the movie this past weekend, which was a very good adaptation. I just bought “part 2”, and will read it soon.
