The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine – Audio
Book Blurb:
Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne and her husband, Jackson—the beautiful philanthropist and the confident real estate mogul—are a golden couple straight out of a fairytale, blessed with two lovely young daughters. Amber’s envy could eat her alive . . . if she didn’t have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life—the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrish family, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.
My Review: 4 stars
The Last Mrs. Parrish is a psychological thriller with a bat-crazy woman who is trying to fulfill her ambition of becoming a socialite. Ultimately, she does this by ensnaring a married man and being masterfully manipulative.
The genre of psychological thriller is still one of the hottest genres being read right now. Every month there are new titles peppering the shelves. It’s easy to compare and contrast each one against another and picking which to read among the plethora of choices can be difficult. With that being said, I’m so glad I read this one. We hear from just two POVs in this novel, one from the wife and one from the whack-job trying to take the wife’s place. All the characters in this book have a master plan and learning how it all comes together, then unravels, makes this a fast-paced read.
If you’ve read a lot from this genre, I think you’ll be able to figure out the big twist that turns the plot upside down. But that didn’t matter to me as the writing still gripped me and urged me to keep reading. With characters you love to hate, this is a fabulous read to take on vacation if you want pure escapism.
Note that the author Liv Constantine is the pen name of sisters Lynne Constantine and Valerie Constantine. The two live in different states and have written this book via Skype and email. Quite a feat they’ve accomplished.
