ARC from PRH Audio for an honest review

Book Blurb:

Molly Gray is not like anyone else. With her flair for cleaning and proper etiquette, she has risen through the ranks of the glorious five-star Regency Grand Hotel to become the esteemed Head Maid. But just as her life reaches a pinnacle state of perfection, her world is turned upside down when J.D. Grimthorpe, the world-renowned mystery author, drops dead— very dead —on the hotel’s tea room floor.
When Detective Stark, Molly’s old foe, investigates the author’s unexpected demise, it becomes clear that this death was murder most foul. As the case threatens the hotel’s pristine reputation, Molly knows she alone holds the key to unlocking the killer’s identity. But that key is buried deep in her past—because long ago, she knew J.D. Grimthorpe. With the entire hotel under investigation, Molly must solve the mystery post-haste. If there’s one thing Molly knows for sure, it’s that dirty secrets don’t stay buried forever.

The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose is another fun mystery that features the lovable Molly Gray. This book 100% stands alone, but it’s nice to recognize characters from book one. There were some I missed but the new ones, especially the maid in training was a welcome additon.

Molly is witness to a famous author’s public death at the Regency Grand Hotel, directly after sipping his tea. Is it murder or illness? As the lead detective comes to investigate, she is, as she was in book one, quite dismissive of Molly. She doesn’t understand Molly, who is somewhere on the autism spectrum. What the detective doesn’t know, is that Molly holds a secret about the deceased author and she’s not planning on giving it up.

This book also gave us a good look into Molly’s past, going into detail about her mother and why she grew up with her nan. There were some good twists and a whopper of a surprise that made me hope for a book three. I don’t often read the cozy mystery genre, but I’m so glad I fell into the genre with Prose’s books.

Quotes I liked:

A good cup of tea cures all ills. And if it doesn’t, have another.”

“To err once is human; to err twice is idiotic.”
