Three Days in June by Anne Tyler

ARC from PRH audio and Netgalley for an honest review

Book Blurb:

Gail Baines is having a bad day. To start, she loses her job—or quits, depending on whom you ask. Tomorrow her daughter, Debbie, is getting married, and she hasn’t even been invited to the spa day organized by the mother of the groom. Then, Gail’s ex-husband, Max, arrives unannounced on her doorstep, carrying a cat, without a place to stay, and without even a suit.
But the true crisis lands when Debbie shares with her parents a secret she has just learned about her husband to be. It will not only throw the wedding into question but also stir up Gail and Max’s past.

Three Days in June by Anne Tyler is an insider’s look at a woman, Gail, and her ex-husband, Max, as their daughter’s wedding approaches the next day.

The day has started out with Gail’s demotion, rather than a promotion and she’s holding all her cards to her chest. She’s shocked to find her Ex show up at her door as she had no idea he’d be at the wedding. Of course, he brings a cat with him which the groom is allergic to – so against her better judgement, she allows the cat to stay. Oh, and of course he doesn’t bring a suit!

Some sweet and some sad memories are recalled by both Gail and Max as they’re pretty much shuttered at home until the wedding day. When the bride, Debbie, finds out about her intended’s behavior, she seeks advice from her parents which causes them both to feel that glorious emotion of still being needed. This is short book that creeps into your psyche as you begin to really care for these characters.

Quotes I liked:

Anger feels so much better than sadness, cleaner somehow and more definite.”

“Do you keep an itemized list of things to worry about? How do you remember them all?”
